• FidoMail Mobile 0.1.16+98 - desktop work, round two

From Dmitry Protasoff@2:5001/100 to All on Tue Oct 6 03:02:33 2026
    Hello All!

0.1.16+98 is out. Most of the work this time is on the desktop
versions for Windows, Linux and macOS. On a phone, you'll notice
little change beyond the version number. Everything that still
looked like a phone screen stretched across a big window has been
reworked along the familiar lines of Thunderbird and Outlook.

    Desktop:

    - Search, the address book, Subscriptions, the server editor,
Outbox, Inbound files, the mail activity log, Drafts and the raw
message view no longer take over the whole window. They open in
windows over the main program, as Settings already did. Escape
closes them. Picking a draft in the Drafts window opens it docked,
if docking is enabled, just like Reply.
    - There's a search field in the toolbar. It filters the list as
you type, matching subject, sender and recipient. A match keeps
the whole thread in the list. Enter returns keyboard focus to
the list, Escape clears the field, and Ctrl+F takes you to it.
The button beside it, or Ctrl+Enter, runs the full search through
    the message text.
    - You can now fold threads. Every message with replies has a small
triangle to fold or unfold them. A folded thread shows how many
replies are hidden. Left and Right do the same from the keyboard.
Backslash folds all threads; star unfolds them (View -> Threads).
"Next unread" still finds a reply in a folded thread and unfolds
    the thread to show it.
    - Each echo takes one line in the folder pane: a type icon, the
name, and the unread count on the right. Drafts, Outbox and
Inbound files appear as folders below Netmail. The selected echo
is highlighted in the system accent colour.
    - The message list uses the desktop look by default. Selection
uses the system accent colour without changing the text colour,
the columns use the interface font, and the row under the mouse
lights up. The old HotdogEd look, with cyan selection and serif
and monospace fonts, is still one switch away:
Settings -> Desktop layout -> List look.
    - The docked editor now has a desktop header. Send, Save draft and
Attach are labelled buttons, with From, To, Subject and Group
arranged in a compact grid. In a narrow window the buttons use
    icons instead of labels.
    - The editor's part menu, message attributes, attachment actions
and the Geek Code decoder used to slide up from the bottom of
the window. On the desktop they now open as menus or windows.

Synchronet is still not working properly with SHA-1 in binkp despite my attempt to report the issue to the author :(

Where did you report the issue?

If you have access or can create an account, gitlab.synchro.net is where issues are reported and responded to. Otherwise, if you report in a message base it could (and does at times) go unnoticed.

I use binkd <-> Synchronet (latest of both) and don't have issues, but I dont think I mess with sha-1 much, if at all? Unless its enabled by default..

Binkd can't do CRAM-SHA1. Only two mailers on this planet support CRAM-SHA1 in binkp sessions: ginko (broken implementation) and fidomail.

And the only software that can't work with SHA-1/MD5 enabled mailers is binkit from Synchronet.

That's probably not the place, to be fair.

https://gitlab.synchro.net/main/sbbs is broken for me :( "An error occurred while fetching folder content."

You have to check the "remember me" box, and login.

I believe he was having crazy bot attack issues when the code was available just by connecting to the site.

    Oh, neat.

If the developers don't know about it, they can't fix it. *shrug*
